H-E-B Shredded Beef with BBQ Sauce

I love my grocery store, H-E-B. It is a truly Texas brand. They just get Texans! I try their store brands whenever I can. 95% their are brands are just as good as national brands, or better.

When I went through college many years ago, I worked in a deli, we had shredded beef in BBQ sauce every day for our customers. And ran out most every day. So, when I saw this on the shelf, I knew I was gonna try it. This is not a recipe, this is for the times, when you’re dog-tired, and you want something super-flavorful. This will quiet most any hungry kids, or spouse!

I serve them as sliders on H-E-B’s Sweet Aloha Rolls. (H-E-B’s version of Hawaiian Rolls).

H-E-B’s Shredded Beef with BBQ Sauce does not disappoint. Better than the shredded beef we served in that deli all those years ago.

Tangy and sweet. Full of flavor, but not spicy. I keep a package in my freezer, and thaw out a portion fro 3-4 sliders for a meal with baked beans, mac & cheese, or maybe a salad.

Now, don’ get me wrong. I will have my own recipe for something similar in the future. Scratch cooked, whether restaurant or home-made could certainly bet just as good, or maybe better. This H-E-B product is for those times you don’t want to make from scratch.

Give ’em a try! If you f ind better, lemme know. We’ll do a taste test!

Mom’s Taverns – Adult Sloppy Joes

The first time I recall having Taverns,I was really little, and it was the early, or mid-Sixties.Made for us kids as a lunch or dinner, they were always consumed with vigor. They were “officially” Taverns until  the Apple Cider Vinegar hit the pan and the distinctive tang filled the air.

My mother would never serve them with jalapeños, that’s a recent addition. and completely optional. I serve this concoction on French Toast, Rye Bread Toast and as pictured (Whole Wheat) English Muffins. Mom served them on Hamburger Buns, or Toast.
