Howdy

My name is Doug and for years my friends have been telling me to do a food blog. And so here we are. I live in Houston, Texas and love it here. Houston is at a crossroads of so many cultures geographically. Creole, Arcadians (Cajuns), Mexicans, Southwestern, Southern, Midwestern and Country Folk. Texas was founded by Mexicans, then Germans, and the Southerners, Pioneers, Farmers, Ranchers, and it just goes on and on. Then, the people that settled her recently, we have one of the largest population of Vietnamese, Southeast Asians, West Africans, Indians, and Middle Easterners. It makes for one spicy gumbo!

My intent with this food blog is to have fun, see what is out there and to cook some things myself. Mostly cook. I will give reviews of restaurants, grocery stores, but I’m not a food critic. So my reviews will be about places I love and want to share.

And … I am not a chef. I have no formal food training. I will use shortcuts, canned ingredients (when it gets the recipe there), I will undoubtedly insult most all the delicate palates I know, and them some. If I use Cream of Celery Soup from a can, I’ll do my best to have a link for the from scratch version.

Hopefully, you will check back from time-to-time and see what’s been cooking.  I am just starting out and figuring stuff out. I want to have recipes just flow on out to y’all, but I think initially they’ll dribble out and build up up a flow. If you decide to add a comment, please have some manners. Spicy language is fine, just leave any soapboxes at home. Prove to us that you deserve a spot at the table.

Welcome.
